Are we really an advanced race?

Hello everyone. Hope you all are doing fine. I was little caught up with things which required my immediate attention and hence was not much active on WordPress for a while, but here I am again. Time is going so fast and yet so slow. It’s almost the end of September and the pandemic is yet not over. We all are very much in danger to get exposed to the virus anytime, still we all deserve a pat on our back for surviving this long.

Today I want to discuss something which has been bothering me for quite a few days now. So, what’s a better way than to write about it.

We all know how in this year our life has changed. There are so many jokes and memes on how 2020 have ruined our life plans and robbed us from fun and travel. Somewhere or the other we all have cursed this year. However on a serious note I am sure we all are intelligent enough to know that this whole thing is not a fault of a year. The real culprit is us.

We, the advance race, the Homo sapiens, the human being, the intelligent race, it’s all our doing. It’s because of us humans that a disease like this came into the world, got transmitted globally and affected every single person. Fortunately, no animals are at high risk. Maybe the justice is served right this time. Guess nature had enough and try to give us the taste of our own medicine.

And why just the pandemic. We are also very much efficient in forest fires, nuclear accidents, war, deforestation, unplanned urbanization, pollution, climate change, global warming. You name anything devilish and we have done that. We have well-prepared our list and made sure that all the boxes are ticked.

Interestingly, the animals, sea life, birds, insects, even bacteria and viruses, which we gladly call ‘races below us’, they also have a basic sense to not play and pollute the very environment which is necessary for their existence.

But look at us, we are trying every single possible thing, every minute of the day, to make this planet Earth more and more inhabitable for us as well as for the other species. We are so engrossed in so-called modernization and advancing ourselves that we don’t even care for the very thing that sustains us.

And see how advance we are. Fortunately we don’t have to look back, just look at our present. We humans, are so advanced that a single virus has made the whole world paralyzed. A virus, a disease has showed us how exactly capable and advanced we are. Now to be honest what are we getting in return for playing so much with nature. Not even development I believe. Think about it what is the next major thing that we have actually developed or invented lately.

We have made great inventions like electricity, light bulb, telephone, plane, car, computer, mobile, camera, rockets etc. But what have we invented recently. In the past when people used to talk about the future they had great expectations from 2020. Like flying cars, robots, life on Mars and many other fantasies. And look what we are doing. Just look around. Development I don’t know but definitely you will see plastics everywhere.

Now we are developing apps, new version of the same mobile, high camera pixels, TV with bigger screens, internet with 5G speed, loud noise which we call music, and a chronic pain in our neck and back.

Look I am not saying that apps and mobiles are not important. I also live in this world, and I know their importance. But this is not something which will help us to sustain long in this hostile environment. An environment which is now damaged and crippled by overpopulation, overconsumption and overexploitation. How can destroying nature can be called development. Just for a few months when the whole world was in locked down, and we were trapped in our home we all have witnessed how nature healed itself.

It’s very much predictable that our future is bleak and every passing day is making the chance of survival dim. But what are we doing about it? Sadly nothing much. We proudly chose to ignore the much foreseeable future and go on with our usual life with not a care. We are living on this planet as if we have another one to go. But think about it for how long can we ignore it?

Don’t you think we all are becoming the real problem? Are not we all answerable? Are we really an advanced race?

  1. This is an absolute truth, we have been playing with nature, there are many who are working to make it better as well, however I do agree that we need to do much more than what we are doing currently. Your statement about other animals co-existing with nature is so true, we human beings know it but still act naïve. Thoughtful!!

  2. Hi Yeshu, welcome back first of all!

I read the whole article and before getting into “what” you’re trying to say, I wanna appreciate “how” you’re trying to say. I mean it was written in a way that anyone and everyone would connect to it.
Beginning with how you said “It’s not the fault of the year” and then how you related it to animals and said justice is done and then the way it said we are getting the taste of our own medicine. It’s all absolutely right and will hit home to anyone who reads it. Not individually but collectively we are all responsible for everything thats happening.

It is really thought provoking article!
Very well written, I can imagine all that you must be thinking while writing it!

    1. Thank you Rashmi for checking on me when I was away from WordPress. Love you for all the kind words.
You are right its not an individual fault but a collective fault of all of us. No matter were we are living or which country or religion we belong to, because before any of these we are human first and Earth is our home. Without the planet Earth there will be no us. The nature is giving us enough warning, its time we take it seriously.
I am really happy you can relate to this post and find it relevant.💛

  3. Very true. Humans have brought about their own doom. Because they are selfish and don’t think about nature and other beings. This year has been a big slap on our faces. Hope we lear and rectify.

  5. Thank you for writing this down. It has always boggled my mind. For me, there are several flowcharts and it is so cluttered, that I could not have a neutral view towards it. Perhaps we were the initiators or we weren’t the only trigger. I wish we could restart this simulation, start with a different initial condition instead of humans and see where it takes us. Unfortunately, we aren’t this advanced yet. Part of me would never want this to happen.

  6. This is amazingly written. I completely agree, and I find the last paragraph to be so powerful. We think we’ve advanced so much as humans, but really in the process we’ve been destroying not just nature, but other humans as well. Think of all the racism that proceeds to exist, and all the terrible wars still happening especially in the Middle East. It’s so heartbreaking. But your post was a great reminder that change needs to be made, and we can do it if only we try. ❤

  7. Indeed Yeshu. The Earth was in a bliss before the arrival of the human kind. In just about 200,000 years we have hurt the earth so much that even now if we don’t hear its call, doom is upon us. Well written Yeshu.

  8. Well-written and thought-provoking, Yeshu! While some of us are worring about species extinctions and other environmental losses that we may never recover from, others, in their greed and selfishness, continue to destroy what is left!

I may not be able to do much, but I will make my vote count! And I will buy humanely-sourced and organic food as much as I can. I will avoid the use of toxic chemicals in my home and yard. We can all do something! 🙂

    1. Thank you so much Cheryl. If even on individual level we take up initiative to save and protect the environment it will help. Every step no matter big or small will hopefully take us to a brighter future. You are right we can all do something.

  9. Not all humans are hopeless, but there are some who do seem rather callous to what is going on in the world. I think there may be an “I’m alright Jack” mentality.

I see it a bit like tenants. If I built a beautiful house and let it out to tenants who ruined it, I would not destroy the house, I would evict the tenants, repair the house and then invite new tenants to live there. So the way I figure it, those who are ruining the earth, maybe they could go and live on Mars or somewhere…and those who love this beautiful planet and it’s creatures could care for it properly. This planet is a truly stunning home and I am sure there are many people who would be happy to work together to help it reach it’s potential.

    1. I so agree with your thoughts and loved how you described it💛. People are usually so much driven by greed and selfish interests of their own that they don’t even think about the consequences that will hamper their planet, their life and the life of other species as well. Wish we can send these people to some were else.

  10. This is so true. We humans are the main culprit for destroying the nature. But also there are some people who are tirelessly working to save our environment. This 2020 is a big lesson for us. Also great post 😊👏👏

    1. Thanks Sonali. I agree though the number is less there are few who are constantly trying to save Earth. We can only hope that everyone realize the impact of their action soon and make this planet a better place.

  11. Amazing post, Yeshu. Thought provoking, and passionate. I so agree with you on this. Very relevant points made, and concerns raised. And you’re right, back when 2000’s began, we used to dream how advanced 2020 would be. And here it is, much the same, only sporting different clothes now. And yes it’s not the fault of the year. I’ve heard it said to: 2020 is a bad omen, it’s a bad bad year. So easy, just put the blame on the year, and keep spreading filth all around.
I guess you will enjoy the book: Sapiens, if you haven’t read it already. Keep writing…and shining.👍👏🍀🙏

    1. Thanks Sundaram. Glad you find the post relevant. Actually nature is giving us enough warning. Its time to reconsider our attitude and approach towards the things which are necessary for our survival and to take responsibility for our actions. Afterall not only us but we are playing with the life of million other species as well.

And thanks for the suggestion. I haven’t read this book. I will definitely include it in my list.

  12. We are heading towards a hollow development..I guess. Where we are having most expensive devices plugged into us and from within, we are diseased in some or the other way.
Your article was clearly a reminder to the damage we all have been and are doing to our own selves. We are running behind more comfort and leaving behind the things that sustain us!
What else could be the more wisest thing about we ‘humans’!

A worth reading write up, indeed!

    1. Hollow development is the right word Chetna. The kind of development we are aiming and trying for will be our doom. We need to find ways to co exist with nature and not to destroy it for temporary luxury.
Glad you find the post relevant 🤗

  13. We blame each other for all the chaos we cause to nature and environment. I think only science says that we are the most intelligent race, but the polluted world around us is the proof to the selfish development.

  14. Yeah, I mean this world was fine as it is, then industrialization happened where we think it makes life easier, it does but the effects shortens our life span by destroying our natural resources.

  15. Heyy! You came up with well written truth bomb and sometimes similar thoughts uaed to pop up in my mind. People say we are progressive & writing the best stories of development whereas this development is based on the destruction of natural resources. Remember the days of complete lockdown, we witness the clean environment for first time after years, the largest hole in ozone layer healed itself so everything is possible still impossible because we are on the way of development and survival in future will become a big deal for sure.

  16. This is a very good post and an important one. I am 71 years old and I have lived through the threat of a nuclear holocaust. That was the big threat when I was growing up. But the wholesale destruction of our planet by humans, not the atomic bomb, is something that I never saw coming. I do not think it is too late but where is the will to change? I think that must rest with those who are still young enough to see it through . But I am not giving up!

    1. Thanks for your lovely comment. You are right we were more concerned about other threats but we never considered ourselves a threat until recently. And its time to reconsider what we are doing with our beloved planet. Lets not give up ❤️

  17. I fully believe that 10,000 years ago we had high technologies and we lost them through misuse and nature tipped her scales, balanced herself back to better health by setting humans back to the stone age conditions. Without getting into all the Annunaki and their possible upgrade of evolving homosapiens, they gave us knowledge of metalworking and astrology. Astro influences are quantum level strings of connections to everything in the universe. We change matter on a quantum level by simple observance and matter wherever it exists has an influence on how we feel. If that was understood then they were still well ahead of where we are now in the comprehension of the energies of the universe. It was not the Egyptians that built the Giza plateau, they didn’t even exist when the pyramids were built. The Spinx has been dated to 10,000 years old recently. The great pyramid is an energy-enhancing building and focuses on the energy, working as an engine, before the internal technology was removed. We had high technological knowledge that was lost to time. Mabie intentionally taken from us in the time of the great deluge, or we wiped ourselves out. We don’t learn and we repeat cycles of the wheel that runs forever over and over and I believe other intelligent species don’t want us to leave here. We are evil children to them. imo…

    1. Thank you so much for this wonderful comment. I agree with your thoughts, even I believe that in ancient past our knowledge and wisdom was way ahead. Eventually we lost it due to our evil and self centric thoughts. Instead of being advanced and developed further we are going back and losing whatever little of our intellectual capacity is left. But lets not give up. We might have to work harder but we can still save ourselves.

  18. Our terrible inability to respect the future, and nature. We always turn to bigger immediate problems, not realizing that the smaller immediate ones lead to much bigger future ones. Unfortunately, we’re running into a situation where we want try to fix the problem until it can’t be fixed. Many know what needs to be done to save the world for generations to come, but false progress is more important, it seems. Hopefully we’ll start to mature emotionally and intellectually soon enough.

      1. We can still try, and probably still can find the solutions if we want to. And you’re exactly right. As much as the planet will change, in the end, it’s really human beings that will suffer the most. We’ll die, but the planet will find away to keep going. Perhaps if they told more people this truth they would care to rethink global warming and things of that nature. It’s saving the planet, of course. But it’s also saving ourselves. Again: good and thoughtful post! Have a great weekend!

  19. Soo true! This world is only temporary but the question is when do we start realizing this and when do we actually do something about it? How do we get the word across and who will actually listen to it? But one step at a time, sooner or later the world will know. Just needa have faith ❤️

  20. Greed as a lot to answer for. I too was fascinated to see how much the planet healed while most of the world was forced to stay inside. I have hope in me yet that changes can and will be made. I have to hope, otherwise it’s just depressing 🙂
