Over the window

In a dimly lit room she was standing near the window. Outside her window the dark grey clouds were gathering all around with occasional flash of lightning. The wind was strong and cold carrying with it the smell of rain. The autumn leaves were swaying against the cold wind. Somewhere a cuckoo crooned a song of love and hope. A yellow butterfly struggling against the wind came to rest on her window frame.

Suddenly with a roar of thunder the rain started. It was drizzling at first but gradually it catched the speed.

She leaned her head against the window, close to the resting butterfly.  All this time she was thinking about her lost love. The rain was so loud that nothing could be heard apart from its sound and gradually she got lost in the rhythm of the rain.

Tears started falling from her eyes just like the clouds above, slowly at first and then with full force. This continued for sometime, the pouring rain and the falling tears.

And just as quickly as the rain started it came to a stop. The yellow butterfly which was peacefully resting till now stretched it wings, ready to take a flight. It fluttered over her window couple of times and then flew away. The sun came shining amongst the grey sky and all of a sudden she smiled, her eyes gleaming with tears had hope in them now.

  1. Awesome, the way you intertwined rains, clouds and butterfly to bring out the emotions and used them to move from melancholy to happiness was amazing!! It had a smile in the end too 🙂
    Great post…

  2. Wow. What a picture you painted there. 👏👏👏 I was, for a few moments, right there at the window witnessing it all unfold so beautifully. Felt the breeze on my face, the smell of rains, and the flash of lightening. Awesome work. 🤘🤜🤛🤘🍀🍀

  3. The beautiful souls are often scarred with something tragic
& tears flow when an innocent dream dies.
But perhaps its life’s mystic magic
For sunlight kisses our tears, to create rainbows in our eyes.

Sometimes some heartbreaks are meant make our heart stronger. ✌️ Beautifully articulated poem indeed!
